Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2023

Its that time of year, Benjamin Moore recently announced the color of the year for 2023. The color is drum roll please...2008-30 Raspberry Blush. Benjamin Moore felt strongly about making a bold choice, one that aims to inspire others and move beyond the muted or neutral hues that we all love, to consider bringing a standout color into our spaces. For 2023 it’s all about charismatic, statement-making color with Raspberry Blush leading the way for the 2023 Color Trends palette.

You may pair this bold color with a coordinating neutral to bring this expressive color to life. These neutrals are OC-57 White Herron, AF-50 Etiquette, OC-52 Gray Owl, and 2133-10 Gray Owl.

Wallpaper Terms And What They Mean?

Ever open a wallpaper book and wonder what all the terms that they use are? Below are a few of those terms and their definition to help make purchasing and hanging unsterstandable.

Single Roll- Quantity that wallpapers is priced by.

Double Roll- Quantity that wallpapers is shipped. Most common size is 20.5 inches wide and 33 feet long or 56.4 square feet. 2 single rolls equal 1 double roll.

Repeat- The vertical length of the pattern until it starts over. A pattern will need to be cut up to that length in order to line-up as you continue on the space that you are papering. The longer the repeat the more waste there will be.

Straight Match- When lining up the next strip of wallpaper that pattern lines up in a straight flow.

Random Match- No lining up is necessary when hanging the next strip of wallpaper.

Random Match Reversible- Very similar to random match however the design is flipped upside down on every other strip.

Drop Match- The pattern lines up at the ceiling as a straight match on every other strip. This allows for a diagonal flow of the pattern and requires more planning while hanging the paper.

Prepasted- Wallpapers pasted in the manufacturing of the wallpaper and is activated with water while hanging the wallpaper. No further glue is necessary.

UnPasted- The wallpaper comes unpasted from the manufacturer and is applied with wallpaper adhesive while hanging.

Peel & Stick- Wallpaper that is peeled to expose its adhesive while applying.

Paste the Paper- Wallpaper adhesive is applied to the wallpaper itself before hanging the paper on the wall.

Paste the Wall-Wallpaper adhesive is applied to the wall before hanging the wallpaper.

Simple Upside Down Paint Storage

Now is the time to remember this simple paint tip. With your exterior deck stain and house painting coming to a close, store all your leftover paint in their original containers upside down and inside. Before that final closure of the paint lid clean the paint out of the lip/rim of the gallon or qt, paper towel work fine. Then with all the excess paint cleaned off the can put the lid back on firmly, a rubber mallet reduces the dents caused from a hammer. If the lid is resealed without cleaning the rim first the paint with cement the lid on so future removal is tough. This storage method will stop all air infiltration eliminating the trapped air to dry the paint out over time. When you need to touch up or re coat you will have wet paint!

Protecting New Hard Surface Floors During Painting Projects

Use Red Rosin to cover you new hard surface flooring as you finish your painting projects. Red Rosin is sold in a 36" x 140' roll with an inexpensive cost of less than 3 cents a sq ft. Rosin Paper is moisture and scuff resistant protecting the finished floor. I suggest taping the perimeter of the room first with sensitive release yellow frog tape. With the edges covered with tape lay down the 3ft wide rosin overlapping each row a couple inches and taping that down with inexpensive tan tape. With the floors protected from spills you are now ready to paint. The Rosin will resist foot traffic and scaffold or ladder placements. Start Spring Paint Prep

Now is the time to get the exterior of your home or the surface of your existing deck ready for coating! We are often asked how long after washing the siding or preparing a deck for the new finish, is ideal for starting the coating application. The common misunderstood thought is the urgency to start painting. The grime and dirt you are now washing off the siding has been accumulating for many years, since the last paint job. Once thoroughly washed and rinsed our encouragement is to watch the weather forecast and determine the day to paint based on conditions, your siding will stay clean and ready for a few weeks, minimum. Variables to the length of time the surface will stay clean might be if you live on a gravel road, freshly worked fields near to the structure, things like that. On decks, similar conditions might dictate a shorter window between cleaning and coating. Remember in most cases, time is on your side after cleaning. Prepare well, and you choose the day to start.

Roll Lightly

While rolling out ceilings, a few things to remember. Keep the room temperature low, 60ish while painting to allow the paint to dry slowly, preventing many of the roller marks left behind form the paint drying too quick. Also roll with very little pressure, especially when painting those high ceilings using an extension handle attached to the roller frame. The tendency is to apply too much pressure working the paint out, which results in uneven paint distribution leaving behind lines in the dry paint film. Also the proper nap cover for the ceiling, sooth or textured, is a key to a beautiful ceiling. Always Sand after Priming Drywall

An often overlooked and important step when renovating with new drywall. After the board is hung, finished and primed, remember to lightly sand the primed walls again before finish painting. Now you may be thinking "SAND AGAIN?!?" after just finishing the messy drywall stage, but a light sand with 150 or 180 grit sandpaper is very important. Whether you use a separate primer or self priming paint, both will raise the nap of the board making a slightly rough surface. Not much effort is needed to achieve a significantly smoother wall with a simple, easy sand. You won't be creating much dust, so a vacuum or damp rag with quickly remove any excess dust.
